Ripoff lost signed affidavit and are trying to get me, through AFNI, for a six year old bill

In June of this year, I received a bill from a collection agency, AFNI, that is used by Charter Communications. It stated that I owed a balance of $81.46. I disregarded the bill so I could talk to my neice, whom signed an affidavit with Charter, because she was living in my home in Belleville at the time. She confirmed that she paid the balance that was owed to them, but unfortunately didn't have a copy of the affidavit.

In the meantime there was a Fox2 Investigates on a lady who was having a similiar problem with Charter. I too was on an account that was several years old. I think hers was 10. The guest on the show stated that by law they have to show proof of a bill. That she should write a letter and request proof. Well I did just that and got another bill. No proof whatsoever.

A collector from AFNI called and I happened to be home so I answered my phone and talked to him. His name was Curtis. I told Curtis what had happened and that I spoke with my neice and I asked him if there was a copy of the affidavit in the file. He stated that all they get is a piece of paper with a name and a amount. He told me he would give me til 7/7/06 to contact Charter to get this affidavit.

Well in the meantime I have tried to contact the people at Charter with no results. All I get is the run around and transfered. I am tired of dealing with these idiots! What ticks me off is that they can add things to my credit report. I know that I can put a letter in my report to explain any derogatory information, but come on, do you think creditors give a rat's ass.

It's only $81.46, but it's the principle. If a company like that had the right to charge anyone for "ghost" balances, and they did it to millions of people, that's alot of easy income. It's fraud. It's stealing. Oh by the way, I was told that this account was opened in Feb. My home in Belleville was vacant and I lived in MO. Go figure!

I called 1-800-GETCHARTER, told my story and was given another number to call, 1-866-452-3069 s/w betty, s/w Julius. Told to call 1-800-GETCHARTER again and s/w Daniel. He told me to call 1-888-211-4455. She told me to call the local office in Belleville at 1-866-452-3069. I s/w Julius, He told me there's nothing I could do. I called back the next day and s/w a Betty. She told me I needed to call Dawn at 1-800-377-7724. When I asked what department that was, she said it was their cash managemnet department and I repeated, this is the cash management dept, and she said yes. They will have a copy of that affidavit.

I called the number and s/w a Dawn, whom said they are "Cash Management Services" and that they are a collection agency for Charter. Now keep in mind I told everyone of those freakin idiots that I was being contacted by AFNI. That was the last straw.
