Ripoff! Warning! What you need to know in case of separation or divorce

My husband and I had at one time a joint checking account along with an installment loan with Wells Fargo. Since our separation, those accounts are no longer open. The checking account was closed and the installment loan was charged off in bankruptcy. He opened his own individual checking account as did I with Wells Fargo. Recently I ordered new checks and gave them my new address for those checks. They not only sent me a letter stating that they had updated my address, but they sent one to my soon-to-be ex-husband who now has an address for me I would have prefered he not have. When I went into my local branch to complain, they explained to me that because we had an installment loan in both of our names, it was their policy to inform both of us when our address or profile is updated, as our information is still connected due the the installment loan, even though our current checking accounts are completely separate.

While fortunately I am not an abused wife, I can't help but wonder what repercussions this policy could have for those who need to get away from an abusive relationship or spouse. The only way to prevent this from happening in the future, as far as I know, is to change banks, which is exactly what I did.
