Glad to read all these comments and wish I did have acces to the internet back in 2002 to do research.
I got an offer to restablish credit through capital one back in and it sounded great. And sent in a small fee then got the card and activated it by phone then realized they charged $300 dollors just to activate the card, and I was very upset. I called back the same day and told them that I was not going to pay these fees just to have this card and requested they cancel the account immedity. Well after many phone calls and requests, they did not cancel the account and said I owed the $300 asctivation fee, and I told them I told them after they activated the card and I declined to use it after learning of this unknown fee and I requested it canceled at that same time.
Well they cancel the account even though I never used the card bcause I cancelled, they still instisted that I pay the fee and when I refused to pay after many call requesting it cancelled that same day, they after a few months charged all these late fees and before I knew it they wanted me to pay them over $600 dollors for never using the card! Well it ended up on my credit report saying I owed it and never paid those fees that they added when I clearly canceled that account. I was ill at the time and then out of work for a while and hard times and I had no way to pay it!!! So now it looks bad on me. And I never even used that card at all! What's wrong with these people! Scammers. Thankfully now I have a computer so now I always look things up everytime I get one.
And that other person that said I always pay my bill, well missy alot of us real people have real problems, and very hard times, illness and many medical bills, divorce, and putting food on the table and having a roof over my head, and having to get many medications, there is no way to pay off bills such as those. Bad things do happen to many good people! Most of us don't have no one but ourselfs to make it in life and we don't need A*s like you!!!
