I went into this insurance because I was informed that if I were to lose my job by no fault of my own I would be entitled to an out of work benefit. Through my credit card I paid a sum of $19.30 a month to this company.
Two months ago I was terminated from my job as a Care Attendant due to the death of my mother whom I worked for, her death was in July but the termination didn't come till a month later in August, so I filed a claim. I was sent a form, where it stated several things had to be met before they would consider honoring the claim. I fill out all the information and went as far as to go to my former employer for them to fill out part, then I went to my state employment agency for them to fill their part and to look for work as well.
After doing all this, they wrote me back stating that it wasn't sufficient information because my last day of work was July 16 but I didn't go to the agency till September 7, I tried to explain to them that yes that was the last official day I worked but my actual termination didn't come till one month later, and I ask them to take this into consideration. I received a reply a few weeks later stating that my claim had been denied.
I had been with this program for four years, paid my premiums on a monthly basis yet when I need them to live up to what they promise they leave me high and dry.
Well all I can say is if this company can live with themselves for denying a young woman who is currently unemployed, recently found out she has glaucoma, lost her sole surviving parent this year, and has had to file bankruptcy, I say good for them, because I sure couldn't live with myself if I screwed someone over like that.
I would hate to see a poor victim of Hurricane Katrina try to file a claim with these people, they would be turned down flat because they weren't within this so called 30 day period to file the claim.
