Household Finance
Ripped off and lied to

We refinanced with Household in 2003. My husband lost his job a year later and we got behind on the mortgage. We were harrassed day and night.

When we got a letter for forecloser we applied for a hardship. We were told we would more than likely get it in our situation. We sent the requested forms and didn't hear anything for a month.

My husband contacted them when we received a denial for the hardship in the mail. We were told we were denied because they needed the same paperwork again since it took so long for the hardship to go through. What?

We re-applied. Again heard nothing until we received the 2nd denial and we again called them. The reason was the same and they said they tried to call us. Which is a total lie. We went on an emotional roller coaster with these people for a year and were lied to repeatedly.

We were even told that we had to ask a question a certain way to get the right answer after we called to complain about a previous lie.

But my biggest beef is after paying on this loan for almost 3 years we just now find out we have deferred fees that are almost $10,000. We owe way more now than we originally borrowed. We were never told about any deferred fees and when I found out I decided to go elsewhere for refinancing. I was told this happens to a lot of people.

I asked Household for a payoff and we get a call from them basically saying 'oops, sorry' we treated you this way, sure you don't want to stay with us? Are you kidding me?!! She apologized for the way we were treated and said her company failed our account in all areas and our file should have made it to her desk a YEAR ago. She said we should have received the hardship and what the collection department did was ludacris.

She told us we had the deferred interest because when we make an early payment one month and then make a normal payment the next month we are charged these deferred fees and it has been going on since the beginning since we made an early payment. So, we basically got penilazied for making an early payment. Who knew? How dare we make a payment 6 days early.

We plan to get away from them as soon as possible and hope by posting this consumers will pay more attention and ask more questions. Afterall, a mortgage is one of the biggest purchases in your life. I am a watchdog from here on out. Thanks for listening!
