Friday 9/16/05 I deposited my payroll check into my account at Southtrust in Gadsden, AL. (Southtrust is now merging with Wachovia, which I'm not sure if it has anything to do with my problem or not, but I know that they have been having problems ever since.) I deposited the check after 2pm, and i understood that the deposit wouldn't show up until the next business day. Since the bank isn't open on Sat, i figured Monday would be the next business day. I also assumed that they would post my deposit around 8 that morning. I went to a gas station around 9:30am and my debit card was declined. I was on my way to school and i honestly wasn't sure i would have enough gas to get home after. I had my boyfriend (who is also on the account) to call the bank to find out what was going on, and they informed him that the deposit would not post until 8 that night. When he called me back and told me, I called the bank because i couldn't believe it. I was told it wouldn't post until that night also. So about 11pm that night (Mon 9/19/05) I went to the ATM to pull out some cash to get gas and to have cash on me for the next day, and it said my balance was $0.00
So, about 12:30am, I tried again, this now being 9/20/05, and again my balance said $0.00. I even tried again 20 minutes later and received the same balance. So now I'm wondering what happened to my money and if they are planning to post it anytime soon, because i'm honestly going to need money soon. I'm also wondering if you can charge banks with theft.
