I was also a recipient of a letter regarding an account I never had. I think I would remember if I owed $9,458.03 to Chase Providian or anyone else! I called also, and was told the same thing, that it may be have originally been under another name. I checked my credit report that I still had on record from 1990 the year they claim it was last paid, and do not see this account listed.
I decided to not be a victim and take charge. I sat down and wrote a cease and decist letter, a letter to the NY State Attorney Generals Office, as well as lodging a formal complaint through their web site and also to the FTC. I will also be contacting the USPS tomorrow to file a complaint with them.
In my letter to NCO, I also asked for notarized copies of my information that they are referring to, dates, account numbers, name of original account etc. I also asked them to send it to me registered, return receipt, as I am sending all of my correspondence in that way.
Hopefully, they will not contact me again, if so, I will fight them with everything I have because this is outright fraud and a violation of my rights.
Lets band together to fight these S_ _ _ B_ _ _.
