I recieve a call today from a collection agency stating I owe 59.95 to a company called myperfectcredit.com. I had no recollection of ever signing up with this company but I go to their website and find out they bought clearcredit.com which I had signed up at one point to check my credit score for free. That was back in 2003. My email address that was linked to that account was non-function from August of last year until June of this past year This company never contacted me through email because that address would obviously bounce so I never knew they started charging to be a member. They never called me on the phone and they have never mailed me a bill through regular mail. The contact I recieve is from the collection agency today.
I called myperfectcredit.com's number but all they kept telling me was to contact the collection agency. I contacted the collection agency and all they know is that I owe the money and it will go on my credit record if I did not pay it. They said I could dispute it but it would still be on my record as not paid and on my credit report. So I went ahead and paid it so it wouldn't be on my record and told them I would send in a dispute too.
I figure I have no hope of ever seeing that money again but I've just never been so ripped off before in my life. How can they charge me for a service I never signed up for and never authorized and they never told me about?
I tried to find a real number for the company. The address in Carson City is just a mail box service. The area code for the fax number is in Washington. Thats all I know. I can't believe a company could get away with something like this! Thanks for reading my rant! I hope others will benefit.
