I, like so many others, was fooled by a call from Sureway Beneficial saying they had a $2000 credit limit unsecured Mastercard approved for me. It had a $249 fee which was supposed to cover fees making the card interest free for 2 years.
This of course sounded like a good idea at the time. They had called me on my cell phone while I was at work and even though I repeatedly said I don't have time to discuss this, they continued on with their speech.
I agreed to the card, gave them my bank info and they said they money would be withdrawn in a few weeks. I also received a long distance trial offer which I cancelled the minute I received info about it.
The card was supposed to arrive about 25 days after the money came out, so after a month and still no card, I started my attempt to contact them via phone. After several busy signals and several "all operators are busy, please leave a message" I started to worry that I had made a huge mistake.
I finally reached a rep and she stated the card was on its way, that they normally never took this long, and to watch for a welcome package to arrive. So a week or so later, I receive a package with useless info about cell phones, vacations and a form to fill out and send in along with $39.95 to receive a Mastercard debit card that you had to load with your own money!
So I called and called some more and finally reached another rep so I asked her if I was supposed to fill out that form and send in more money to get this card I had originally applied for 2 months ago. She said yes, that had to be filled out and sent in to receive the card, so I proceeded to tell her I wanted the $249 back, that I didn't agree to paying more money and that I didn't know it was a card you had to load money on to be able to use it-I have a debit card already!
She gave me the PO Box mailing address and said to send a letter, attention Marsha Grant, stating the situation and that they would determine if I could have my money back. After being jerked around all this time, I decided to look up the company on the net-I'll never know why I waited til now! All I found was negative info and stories of everyone else being scammed by these people!
I filed a complaint with the BBB and the FTC-I hope everyone else does the same and I will be contacting all of the numbers I've seen on this site. 813-962-7700, direct line 813-930-7323, Ira Rubin, manager and 866-849-1486. Thanks for your info and I hope to get my money back too!
