Closed account because of APO address, ripoff!

I am a military member. I have moved due to military requirements. When I changed my address, I received a letter from Merrick Bank. It stated it was closing my account because I had a military address.

I don't know what one has to do with the other. I contacted Customer Service. They were not helpful at all. Now I will have a closed account with a balance showing on my credit report. Can anyone help?
