On February 20 I had my mother in law deposit $40 into my Wells Fargo checking account. When the money was not available for withdrawal I called the 800 number on the back of my bank card. The representative informed me that my account was over drafted, and said that I would have to go to the Wells Fargo branch that I opened my account at and talk to them because the Branch has more authority then she dose over the phone.
On February 22nd I went to my Wells Fargo branch Located at 1530 N. SCOTTSDALE RD, SCOTTSDALE, AZ 85257 Tel: 480-429-3936 and waited for an hour and a half, while they helped another costumer before me, when the assistant manager called me back to his office. I explained that my account was overdrawn but, it was my understanding that I had overdraft protection on my account. I explained that when I first opened my account with an employee named Rosea, I filled out all the paperwork for overdraft protection. Rosea told me I would be receiving my card in the mail. At no time did she explain that I might not receive overdraft protection so when I received my Wells Fargo Bank Card I assumed that it had overdraft protection. After explaining all this to the assistant manager he told me I must come back the next day to talk with the manager because he couldn't reverse any overdrafts with out her.
Today (February 23rd) I went back to my Wells Fargo branch bank. I went through the same explanation the bank manager and was told that it was not a bank error, and it was basically all my fault and the best that she would do is reverse 3 overdrafts still making my account overdrawn by $78.00. So I called the 1800 number again and spoke with their manager on duty, she said that most customers would be happy that $100.00 was reversed, and there is nothing that she would do to help my current situation.
What I don't understand is why my account was overdrawn in the first place. When I opened my account Rosea had me fill out the paper work and said that I would receive my card in the mail and that I would have overdraft protection on it. Now my account is overdrawn, I would like to have the remaining $78.00 reversed and my $40.00 reinstated. I believe that Wells Fargo bank is discriminating against me due to my age. They think that because I am young they don't have to admit their error because there is nothing I can do about it.
I know $78.00 does not seem like a lot of money but could mean the difference between eating and not eating. I have a baby on the way and just want the world to know that Wells Fargo bank is stealing from me and other young people like myself because they think they can.
