We have experienced the same difficulties with Americredit and our credit report. We purchased a Chevy Cavilier in 1999. Unfortunately, I totaled the vehicle in January. The insurance company paid Americredit the sum of $7,300. Much to our astonishment, we still owed $2300 on the vehicle.
We didn't purchase the vehicle new, it was used. You can buy a brand new Chevy Cavilier for this price. Up until the accident, the vehicle payments were made on time.
We decided to dispute the amount still owed on the vehicle. Well to our surprise, Americredit filed a judgement in the amount of $2300 plus their legal fees.
My husband's pay checks were attacked by this judgement for $100 every pay period. Of course, there was nothing we could do. The amount was paid, my husband's checks were relieved and we continued on our merry way refusing ever to use Americredit again for purchasing a vehicle.
This year, we decided to purchase a home, to our astonishment, we find that Americredit is still on our credit report.
Once for charging off the vehicle (paid in full by a judgement the monies they received from the insurance company.) And the judgement is still listed as unsatisified.
They have been contacted twice by our attorney to remove these discripancies. This compay uses and abuses consumers who have had difficulty getting credit to purchase vehicles.
I understand the risk they are taking when helping those of us who have fallen on hard times and are trying to get back into the good, but using and abusing there authority and capability is extremely unprofessional.
They need to keep their business and money coming in so they need those of us who have had hard times. These people should be legally bound by the law to treat everyone the equally. The use part of America in their name "Ameri". The sure give America a bad name.
