On Sept 20th, I got a $1600 cash advance on my Providian credit card (at my bank) for which I was charged a $48 fee plus 23.99% interest on the $1600 (my standard purchase rate is 14.99%). One month later I paid off the total balance due (including the cash advance) as of my Oct statement.
Three months and three statements later, I am STILL being charged 24% interest for a cash advance I paid off in October. When I called to find out why, I was told because I made more purchases on the card after that and they have the right to apply my payments to charges I haven't even been billed for instead of the higher interest rate cash advance!!!
Don't get a cash advance; you'll never finish paying it off. What a racket. Deceptive trade practices.
I'm paying the card off and file 13ing it.
