In September I was solicited through a mass mail and was silly enough to pick up the phone and inquire about the Loan re-financind opiton NFM Lending is promising. After convincing me that they can pretty much bring the moon to me, Bruce Dorsey - a loan originator - started e-mailing me almost daily offering their services. When I initially talked to Bruce I explained that my husband and I want to refinance a house which is under my husbands name and that we have the opportunity to paydown quite a big chunk of the prinicipal balance. I specifically asked Bruce whether to go ahead and do this in advance before applying for the re-financing and whether, also in advance, to transfer the funds to my husbands account and he said it was not necessary and they will tell me what funds to bring to the settlement. NFM made us pay out of pocket for "independent" (appointed by them appraiser) and then started dragging the process requiring more and more additional papers. Then, after not having heard from them for about two weeks left me a message that the mortgage is ready and we can close - but they had to slightly restructure it - meaning slap us with additional fees. When I refused to close on the "restructured' loan with the new fees and asked them for explanation they simply denied the application citing "no gift funds allowed" as a reason.
