NFM Lending complaints: data incident, servicing contacts and where to report
September 2026 data incident. HousingWire (September 24, 2026) quotes NFM Lending's legal department: "NFM Lending is aware that an unauthorized third party gained access to certain IT systems" and "At this stage of the investigation, we cannot confirm the number of people impacted." HousingWire reports that Interlock "claims it stole more than 2.5 terabytes of data"; a law-firm notice it quotes says dark web monitoring websites detected on or around September 7, 2026 that Interlock had claimed a breach, and calls it "the alleged breach". A statement from the company, reported by both HousingWire and National Mortgage News (September 24, 2026), says NFM is "following all protocols to ensure compliance with notification and credit protection resources for anyone impacted". National Mortgage News adds that a screenshot "purportedly shows" Encompass data was compromised, and that an ICE representative told it that neither ICE nor its systems, including Encompass, have been subject to a security breach or compromise related to the NFM incident. HousingWire says the Smith complaint alleges the incident exposed customers' names, Social Security numbers and financial records; these are allegations. We did not find a notice about the incident on the nfmlending.com pages we opened on 2026-10-18 (home, About, Contact, Existing Customers, FAQ, policy pages and a site search for "incident"). A search of the California Attorney General breach list for organization name "NFM" on 2026-10-18 returned "There are currently no published reported breaches"; we did not check other states' lists. If you are a current or former NFM borrower, watch for a letter or email from the company and compare any message against the contact details below before replying or clicking links.
- Existing loan or payoff. The Contact page says payoff requests go to the loan's current servicer: for the NFM Lake Zurich Servicing Center call 1-866-352-6802; for the NFM Lending Linthicum Maryland Office email [email protected] or call 1-866-765-1827. Servicing questions: [email protected]. For loans serviced by the Lake Zurich center the page adds that you can also request a payoff through the online borrower portal if you are a registered user (portal.nfmlending.com).
- Complaints to the company. The Contact page form has a topic drop-down that includes "Complaints"; the main number is 1-888-233-0092. Keep dates, loan numbers and copies of what you send.
- Unwanted sales calls or texts. The company's Do Not Call policy says requests can be made by phone at 888-233-0092, by email, or in writing to NFM Lending, Compliance Department - Do Not Call List, 1190 Winterson Road, Suite 300, Linthicum, Maryland 21090, and that a request is added to its internal list "within five (5) business days".
- Regulators. The CFPB complaint page says it sends complaints about financial products to companies for response and that "Most companies respond within 15 days." NFM's Texas Consumer Disclosure names the Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending (www.sml.texas.gov, hotline 1-877-276-5550) for complaints, and its Illinois page names the IDFPR Residential Mortgage Banking office, (844) 768-1713.
California DFPI order and settlement about per diem interest
What the documents say. The California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) Commissioner issued an Order to Discontinue Violations to NFM, Inc. dated November 15, 2024, finding that NFM "has charged borrowers interest on loans for a period in excess of one day prior to the disbursement of loan proceeds in violation of Financial Code section 50204(o)" and ordering it to "immediately discontinue" that. A Settlement Agreement dated April 2, 2025 recites that a remote examination begun July 22, 2022 found that 5 of 25 sampled loan files (20 percent) had per diem interest overcharges; that NFM's self-audit, submitted June 14, 2023, showed 653 of 2,946 borrowers (22 percent) were overcharged a total of $70,359.50; and that, as NFM represented to the DFPI, it refunded $85,514.38 ($70,359.50 plus 10 percent interest) to the 653 borrowers on June 29, 2023. It records that the 2024 examination sampled five loan files and found no per diem violations.
License-suspension accusation. The Settlement Agreement also recites that on January 8, 2025 the Commissioner served a Notice of Intention to Issue Order Suspending the California Residential Mortgage Lender and Servicer License and to Levy Administrative Penalties, together with an Accusation (OAH Case No. 2025030414; the caption lists a hearing date of October 1-2, 2025), that NFM requested a hearing on January 21, 2025, and that the agreement resolves them without a hearing. The agreement text we read does not record a suspension of the license.
Terms. NFM agreed to an administrative penalty of $65,000 in two payments of $32,500 due April 3 and July 1, 2025, waived its hearing rights, and the agreement states it is a "full, final, and complete resolution of the violations described". The agreement says NFM "cooperated with the Commissioner". Paragraph 20 provides that the subject matter "shall be admitted" for purposes of any future license application or enforcement proceeding by the Commissioner. We did not see a statement in the agreement either admitting or denying the violations in general, and we did not verify whether the two penalty installments were paid.
Other regulators. A search result pointed to a 2010 Massachusetts Division of Banks consent order for NFM, Inc.; the mass.gov page returned "not found" when we opened it on 2026-10-18, so no facts from it are stated here. We did not complete an NMLS Consumer Access check (the site required a verification step we do not bypass), and we did not search other state regulators' enforcement databases by entity name, so the absence of other actions here is not a finding that none exist.
Who is behind NFM Lending
Entity. The nfmlending.com Terms of Use say the website "is owned and operated by NFM, Inc. dba NFM Lending, 1190 Winterson Road, Suite 300, Linthicum, MD 21090". The site footer instead says "NFM Lending, LLC" and "NMLS #2893"; both names are shown with the same NMLS number, and we did not determine from a registry why the footer differs. A company news post dated May 12, 2014 (nfmlending.com/nfm-inc-rebrands-nfm-lending/, opened 2026-10-18) says NFM, Inc., "a multi-state residential mortgage lender based out of Baltimore, Maryland," "officially rebranded to NFM Lending on May 1st, 2014." The California DFPI settlement agreement names the respondent as NFM, Inc., NMLS ID 2893, with its principal place of business at the Linthicum address, a California residential mortgage lender and servicer licensee (CRMLA license 413-1349, issued around September 1, 2015).
Company statements. The company says on its About page that it is "an award-winning, multi-state residential mortgage lender currently licensed in 49 states" and the page lists David Silverman and Sandra Lena Silverman as co-founders; the BBB profile lists M. David Silverman as CEO. The home page claims "81,000+ Five Star Reviews", "168,800+ Homebuyers Helped" and "28+ Years In Service" (company claims; we did not check how they are counted). The company's Do Not Call policy page says NFM, Inc. is an FHA-approved non-supervised mortgagee, a VA automatic lender, an approved Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac seller/servicer and a Ginnie Mae issuer/servicer, giving these IDs (as stated by the company; we did not check the agencies' own lists): FHA 19951-0018-0 and 19951-0000-7, VA 659985-00-00, Fannie Mae 26859-000-5, Freddie Mac 183149, Ginnie Mae 4365. The same page points to nfmlending.com/licensing for licensing information (that page returned HTTP 403 to our fetch on 2026-10-18) and the company's NMLS ID is 2893 (NMLS Consumer Access: nmlsconsumeraccess.org). BBB lists the business start and incorporation as 1998-03-03 (raw page data), and the company's page metadata gives the same date.
Other names in this site's archive. Several archive posts from 2006-2012 use the name "National Fidelity Mortgage" together with "NFM Lending" and the Linthicum address. No company page we opened uses that name, so the archive posts are treated as complaints about the Linthicum lender because of the shared address, website and "NFM" name, not because a source confirms a former name.
Complaint record: BBB, CFPB, Trustpilot and this site's archive
BBB (profile for NFM, Inc., Linthicum, MD; not BBB Accredited), as displayed on 2026-10-18: rating A+; 2 total complaints in the last 3 years and 0 filed in the last 12 months; customer reviews "Average of 6 Customer Reviews" shown as 1 out of 5 stars. The profile says it covers headquarters and corporate-owned locations; BBB also lists separate NFM Lending branch and servicing profiles that we did not combine with this one.
CFPB (company "NFM, INC"), as displayed on 2026-10-18: 75 complaints in total (received between 2011-12-21 and 2026-09-02), 12 of them in the 12 months from 2025-10-18. Products: Mortgage 60, two credit-reporting product categories ("Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports" 7 and "Credit reporting or other personal consumer reports" 4), debt collection 4. Most frequent issues: applying for a mortgage or refinancing 17, trouble during payment process 16, closing on a mortgage 13. Company responses: closed with explanation 47, closed with non-monetary relief 23, closed with monetary relief 4, in progress 1; timely response: yes 65, no 10. These are consumer-submitted complaints sent to the company, not findings, and the figures are shown separately from the BBB and archive counts.
Trustpilot (nfmlending.com), as displayed on 2026-10-18: 1 review (1-star), score displayed 3.2, claimed profile since Sep 2026, 0 reviews in the last 12 months, and Trustpilot's notice that the company has no recent history of asking for reviews so reviews "may not be representative".
This site's archive. Five approved posts (2006-2013) are linked as complaints about the Linthicum lender. They describe fees and loan-program disputes, closing-statement errors after closing, repeated unwanted sales calls, an unpaid closing-agent fee and a refinance that was denied after new fees were added. Posts are unverified consumer accounts. Three further posts about the company that consist mainly of personal accusations about named individuals were not linked or counted.
Lawsuits filed in September 2026 against NFM Lending, LLC
CourtListener lists six civil actions filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland in September 2026 with "NFM Lending, LLC" as defendant: Koppenhaver (1:26-cv-03607, September 11), Clark (1:26-cv-03632, September 14), Romancik (1:26-cv-03627, September 14), Smith (1:26-cv-03661, September 16), Richardson (1:26-cv-03677, September 17) and Salvi (1:26-cv-03862, September 29). The captions, case numbers and filing dates come from the CourtListener listing we read earlier on 2026-10-18; when we tried to re-open the dockets later that day CourtListener asked for a human-verification step, which we did not bypass, so the docket entries were not re-checked and we do not state their details. No ruling was visible in what we read earlier, and we cannot say what has been filed since.
HousingWire (September 24, 2026) describes the Smith action as a proposed class action alleging negligence, breach of implied contract, unjust enrichment and violation of the Maryland Consumer Protection Act, and says the complaint states NFM had not notified customers. The dockets we read do not themselves state the claims of the other five actions, so their subjects are not described here. The company's statement, reported by HousingWire and National Mortgage News, says the lawsuits are "designed to revictimize organizations, like NFM Lending". These are allegations; no class has been certified in any source we read, and we found no ruling.
Is NFM Lending Legitimate?
NFM Lending is the trade name of NFM, Inc., a Maryland-based residential mortgage lender and servicer with NMLS ID 2893 that appears by that name in a California DFPI order and settlement agreement, on a BBB profile (A+, not accredited, as displayed 2026-10-18) and in the CFPB complaint database. Its regulator record in our sources includes a 2024-2025 California DFPI action over per diem interest, and in September 2026 the company acknowledged unauthorized access to certain IT systems and was named in lawsuits in the District of Maryland that remain unresolved allegations.
This page does not rate the company. If you are dealing with NFM Lending, use the contact details in the company's own channels above, verify any loan officer or branch on NMLS Consumer Access (we could not complete that check), and report problems to the CFPB or your state mortgage regulator. Points we could not verify are listed in the sections above.
