Delta Moving and Storage
Damaged some of our good and things

On April 4 I hired Delta Moving Company at 1129 Longwood Av, Hunts Point NY 10474 to handle our move from Mooresville, North Carolina to Barnegat, New Jersey. This move included three and one half months of storage at their New York warehouse.
On April 22 two men came to pick up our household goods and during the course of the day were very rude, didn't want to explain the contract to us and added an additional $1,900 to our estimate for packaging materials. I tried to contact the company numerous times from April 22 through the end of May was told that they were too busy to speak to me and would call me back but unfortunately they never did. We decided to just forget about the extra cost and pay it upon delivery.
On August 7 they delivered two truckloads of goods at 5:30PM and every piece of furniture that was taken off the first truck was damaged. Many of the pieces were damaged beyond repair. Kenny (the foreman on delivery) stopped and called the company to tell them that everything was damaged and Susan (the supervisor at Delta) couldn't be bothered. She told him to have me go through claims. He tried to explain to her that it wasn't just one or two pieces but every piece and she was nasty to him and just kept saying, "have her go through claims". The insurance they offered on the move was 60 cents per pound and taking out more insurance wasn't an option. The total weight on the truck was between 9700 and 9800 pounds. Even if they were to pay the 60 cents per pound on the entire truck it wouldn't even cover the cost of our dining room furniture.
Some of the goods that were damaged are as follows: dining room table (beyond repair), scratches all over chairs, chunks of wood missing from china closet, two end tables and coffee table damaged beyond repair, four poster king size bed all scratched on one side, $1800 sectional couch has tear in back, entire bottom of 57" projection TV is peeling, TV stand damaged beyond repair, wing chair fabric all ripped on corners, antique mahogany accent table has chunk of wood missing from foot, vanity table has large scratches on top, and many other pieces of wood have scratches. Among other damaged goods was a Waterford Crystal Vase ($500), Noritake China Platter and Bowl ($240), fine stemware ($300), many picture frames, dishes, bowls, glasses, etc.
We also believe that while they had our furniture they rented out or used our refrigerator. When the refrigerator was picked up the inside looked brand new, totally spotless of condensation and food. Upon delivery there were hairs and food stains on most of the shelves in the refrigerator section and a couple of shelves in the freezer section. This three year old, $1,200 refrigerator also came back dented on one side.
I sent a letter to the claims department and told them that if I didn't hear anything by August 25 I would have to either seek legal counsel or file a complaint with the consumer affairs division. It is now August 31 and I have not heard a word.
The treatment to us and our goods was absolutely horrific and I strongly believe that this company should have their license revoked.
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
