I had homeowner's insurance with AMICA. A few weeks before the contract expired they sent me a bill with a considerable higher premium (35%, I never had a claim). So I called them up to tell them that I would no renew. Before the new premium became due they charged my escrow account without my knowledge. I only received a note confirming my cancellation.
3 months later I received a note from our mortgage company that my escrow account was short of funds (I had already changed the insurance company) when I found out that they had charged my escrow account without my authorization I asked for a refund.instead of refunding the full amount of $ 639, they submitted a check of only $ 472 without any explanation. I called them again and they explained that they had kept an amount which a different family member owed to them.
To make it clear: Amica mixes up accounts and does not care who actually owed money to them they just take the money and keep it without any written explanation. My advice: stay away from these thieves!
