Tanglez Hair and Tan Studio
Overcharged and Incomplete Service

On 3/31, I had an appt at 1300 @ Tanglez for a cut and color. I have never been to this salon before. The stylist name was Tara. We talked about what she was going to do, a red highlight in the front and a brown all over color. The red color was applied to my hair with no issues. Upon applying the brown hair color my scalp started to burn. I waited approx 2 minutes to see if it would abate and then informed my stylist. She asked if it was extremely bad and I said "no, beauty is pain but I wanted to make sure my hair wasn't going to fall out." I waited another 2 minutes and told my stylist I was sweating from the burning. I then told her she needed to rinse it out, it was burning too bad and I felt I would pass out. Tara rinsed the dye out after I asked her to change the water from hot (it was burning the burn) to cold. We then discussed my hair dye history where I informed her that I had been having my hair colored with permanent product since I was 16 approx every 2-3 months, and something like this had never happened. We discussed the product, Redken, and the color permanence (permanent) and the volume (20). Tara advised me that the burning was from dry scalp, not the hair color. She then advised she was going to apply a different type of color. I told her I had to leave by 3:05 to pick up my 6year old from school and I could reschedule, but was told by Tara she could have everything done in that time. She applied the demi color with no problem and placed me under the dryer, then came back at 2:55 with another bottle of color and applied that which immediately started burning again, but not as severe. I sat for another two minutes and when Tara came back from her smoke break I told her it had been burning again and did she use the same product. She said no. At this point it is 305 and I had to leave, I had her rinse my hair and she didn't even towel dry it. I asked for a towel to dry with while I paid and was given an "old" one to take with me.

When I went to pay I was told the amount was 115.00. When I questioned the very large amount I was told it was because they used "double color." (The red streak and brown dye) I also stated that I didn't even get a haircut and blow dry. The receptionist informed me with the haircut it would've been 138.00. At this point I was out of time so I did not argue, I was already late to get my son so I paid and left. I finally got to look in the mirror in the car and was appalled at my black hair and black dye all over my face. I went back to the salon after I got my son from school to get the color off my face. The receptionist wiped it off and there was never a kind word offered by anyone. I again questioned the 115.00 charge and was told it was for double color. I was livid but I took my son and left. After I got home I called the salon to find out how to get a refund for my color. Pam Campbell, the owner got on the phone and when I explained my issues was immediately told "I don't do refunds." I again questioned the high level of charges, talked with her about the chemical burn to my head, the sopping wet hair and dye all over my face. She told me they charge by root color, and by the tip color, which I had never heard of nor was this discussed and she would be happy to look at my chemical burn. I advised Pam that I was an ER nurse and I know what a chemical burn looks like. Pam also advised that if I hadn't put such a time constraint on her stylist then my hair would've been done to my liking. I informed Pam that two hours and fifteen minutes was more than enough for a color job, and I had not even gotten the haircut or a blow dry. She also told me if I was unhappy with the services I should've spoken with her the two times I had been at the salon that day. I advised Pam that on the first visit I had to leave after having been there for 2hrs and 15 minute to pick up my son and that plenty of time had been allotted for the services I had requested, and the second time I thought it was inappropriate to dispute the services with her with my six year old present. I also told her that since she did not give refunds why would it have mattered when I spoke with her at either visit. I also informed Pam that I would be reporting her to the BBB and that I work at three hospitals and would be sure to spread the word on the poor service and complete lack of professionalism at this shop. She then offered to have me come in and she would redo my hair color. I said (and I know I should not have cussed) that I was not going back into the salon so they could F up my hair again. She hung up on me.

I have asked her for a refund of the 115.00 that I paid her under duress. We were unable to come to a mutually satisfiable agreement so I am turning to the BBB. There is not much I can do now that the salon has my money but I am asking the BBB to resolve the issue with Tanglez Hair Salon and Pam Campbell, owner. I feel that they did not provide the services that we had agreed on, did not disclose the extra charges they ended up charging me, had complete lack of understanding, professionalism and customer service, and essentially was not bothered in any way by what had occurred. I don't think they/Pam saw any problems at all in what I deem my worst salon visit EVER in the 100's of times I have had my hair cut and colored.

I don't care if I have to drive 50 miles to my old town/salon to get my hair done. I will never go to Tanglez again. I have asked Pam for my money back. We shall see
