I purchased a 10 week old female Chihuahua from John Kowal last night 3-3. I live in CT, and made the 2 1/2 - 3 hour trip based on information that I received from John. I was looking to purchase a Chihuahua puppy that came from a home breeder. I had several conversations with John, who stated that he had the parents on his premises that I could look at. He stated that he had 5 females and two males that he breeds. I decided to make the trip yesterday where I drove to Bridgeport then took a one in a half hour ferry ride to Port Jefferson. John stated that instead of me driving an additional 45 minutes from Port Jefferson to Manorville, that he would meet us at the ferry. I thought this was very nice of him to do, since we had to catch the last ferry back at 8:00 P.M. I asked John if he could bring the parents too, so that I could see what they look like, he stated that it would be too much to bring them all. John was suppose to meet us at 7:15 P.M. But did not arrive until 7:40 p. M which did not give us a lot of time to see the puppy, make a decision and sign the paperwork. The first thing I noticed was that the puppy had a bad cough, runny nose and eyes. I stated to John that she had Kennel cough, he stated no, that she is just nervous and once I got her home to give her some honey on top of her food. I didn't have time to review the paperwork given to me until I returned home, where I found that John was not the Breeder or Owner of the litter.instead it was a breeder from IA. If I wanted to purchased a puppy for IA, I could have paid $395.00 for a puppy vs the $900.00 that I paid. John gave me a packet that was suppose to have her Health Certificated from a licensed Vet along with her medical record of shots from a Certified Vet. There was nothing from a Licensed Vet stating her Health or shot record, only a form from "Your Puppy Love" listing the shots she supposedly had, but I don't know this since there is nothing regarding the Vet who administered the shots. The puppy was up all night last night with her cough. She's not eating or playing like a normal puppy so I know she is not feeling well. I have contacted my Vet who wants to see her today stating it sounds like she does have kennel cough and possibly other respiratory issues depending how long she has been like this.
Bottom line, John lied to me about where the puppy came from and then sold a sick puppy to me, where a reputable breeder would never place a puppy until they were healthy. Make sure you don't fall into the same trap that I did. John comes off being very nice, home town family guy, but he is nothing but a scam artist who doesn't care anything about the puppies, he is just about lining his pockets. $
