Exchange Policy - gift card

On Black Friday of this year, I purchased 2 pairs of Wrangler jeans for my grandson, size 7 slim for $7.97 a pair. On December 26th, I returned these two pairs of jeans for an even exchange for a size 6 slim. When I went to make my exchange, the cashier stated that I owed a total of $10.15. I asked her why I owed anything, due to this being an even exchange. She stated that due to me purchasing them on black friday, blitz sale, I now had to pay full price. I asked for a manager and a CSM came and said that was right. The cashier said that this had came down from corporate. I told the cashier just to give me a refund for the jeans and I would purchase them from somewhere else and left. The cashier stated that another customer had also returned 5 pairs of jeans for an exchange, and she was told the same thing, she received her refund also. My question is if a person received a pair of jeans for Christmas and they were the wrong size, when returning them with the receipt, they would have to pay more for the present they received. Also, if I had not had the receipt, I would have received full price on a gift card. This doesn't make since. I use to shop at Walmart on a religious basis, but things are changing, they need to look at their customer services. I know I will be shopping other places, and only Walmart as needed. I know Walmart use to be very customer oriented, but I guess since Sam Walton died, the only thing they are concerned about is the almighty dollar.
