We have had our mortgage at Citibank for years. We did not choose them; it was sold to them. On 11/16 we refinanced with a local credit union. I started receiving notices from Citibank saying that I missed a payment. I could never click the link and get where I needed to go on the Internet, and, because of some health issues, I was too busy to bother with it because I knew I was not late.
Finally on 1/2 I called to say that there must be some mistake and that funds were wire transferred to pay off my mortgage on 11/16. It took about 17 different phone calls over a 30 day period, where I would be greeted by someone in India or the Philippines, South Dakota, Arizona.
I asked the one friendly, knowledgeable, helpful person that I spoke with if I could have his direct line so that we could clear it all up. He said that he could not tell me why, but that he was not allowed to do that.
If they had just tried to be objectionable, they would have been able to see very early on that they, Citibank, posted the pay off to someone else's account. They spent so much time trying to make it my new bank's problem. Citibank would not even pick up the phone and call my bank to get direct information. I gave them all the names and numbers.
I will NEVER do any business with Citibank/Citimortgage, and I will make sure to tell anyone who is interested what a horrible company they are!
Look at what the bail out got you! A company that does not even know it has another hand, much less what that other hand is doing. I should be compensated for my time, faxes and phone calls. Not even an apology was given.
