We purchased our home in 1988 and chose Allstate Insurance to insure the house. We signed up for their Premium policy, which was supposed to cover everything at replacement cost. For the next eight years, we paid our premiums and never had need to file a claim. Then Hurricane Fran (1996) came through. We filed a claim, an adjustor approved it, and we received a check.
Next came a severe wind storm (1997), and again we filed and Allstate paid. Then came Hurricane Floyd, and again we had damage and filed. When we had our 20-inch snow in January, we had some damage and filed. Allstate paid the claim and then "refused to renew" our policy. They claimed we had too many claims in four years and were a "risk".
We were never a "risk" when we were paying our premiums for 8 years without so much as a broken window. Now, when we really need them, they bail out and leave us to pay higher premiums because we are a "risk".
