I was a member in good standing with a Platinum Elite membership that promised unlimited towing along with other services. I called on it twelve times over two years, and then the doomsday letter arrived. My attempts to resolve the matter went nowhere. Ironically, I had already told Allstate Motor Club that my drive to work is more than ninety-five miles each way, which is exactly why I needed help whenever my car broke down.
I did not know my membership had any limits. Then a letter came from the Loss Control Department of Allstate Motor Club, saying my use was excessive and my membership was being terminated. I phoned customer service several times and came to two conclusions. First, the Loss Control Department is a phantom unit that the public can barely reach. Second, the company treats the word "unlimited" as meaning whatever it chooses.
So I am warning everyone who deals with Allstate Motor Club: caveat emptor, or "Let the buyer beware." The incident took place on January 25, not on the date shown in this form.
