What happened to us is hard to believe. My wife brought our beloved 18-month-old purebred Australian Shepherd to Petco to be groomed. At pickup, our dog's eye looked red and swollen. Before they even got home it had shut completely. My wife returned to the store and asked what Christine C, the associate, had done to the eye. The staff answered that shampoo had splashed straight into it. Why was my wife not warned about that at the very least? She took our dog to an emergency vet that same day. The dog needed sedation, as the pain was too great and she could not open the eye. She was prescribed antibiotics. Over the weekend, the dog was still hurting from what had to be a burn on the eye, so we saw our usual vet. The eye had turned entirely opaque. Shampoo could not have done that. The vet told us it was the worst corneal burn she had ever seen, covering the whole eye.
This morning she operated, trying to save it. My children are in tears, because today our beloved dog had her eye stitched closed to keep it, all due to someone who plainly did not care.
