Our shih-tsu was groomed at a Petco in Washington, PA several weeks ago. A few days after his grooming, we noticed he kept itching an area on his neck. There was some type of rash there, so we put a cream on it and covered it with clothing. A week or so would pass and it would look like it was improving, so we would remove the clothing, and he would scratch the area until it bled. This happened a few times, then we took him to the vet today, and he was diagnosed with clipper burn—a rash he contracted from the groomers at PetCo not replacing the grooming tool blades frequently enough. It is costing us $120 to have him sedated and left with the vet overnight so that they rash can be treated, then our dog will be given antibiotics and steroids. Avoid having grooming done at PetCo or take your chances.
