First of all, i just wanted to say that i really enjoy watching my babysitter's a vampire. I personally, am a old sister of an eight year-old boy and babysit with my friend at home. (Just like Benny and Ethan, my brother would be Jane.) Even though there are so many reviews about nightmares, kids actually do love this show and i can see why.
1) The boys in the TV show have lots of fun together -even as geeks and me, being in high school, love to watch and see how in someways i can relate to what they are feeling. My friend and i sometimes say "wow, this show is really cool" because it captures different emotions.
2) I really do not think that the whole point is vampires, it seems to me like a metaphor for a coming of age theme. Let's say, what Sarah is feeling about being stuck between being human and a flesh-ling (a vampire who isn't one exactly because she hasn't tasted human blood before.) For somebody like me, who can interpret it, it can be Sarah - choosing between whether she is straight or not. Being human would be being straight. Being a vampire would be being a lesbian. But, since she isn't exactly either, a flesh-ling, she is choosing between what kind of people she 'wants'. So, it can always be interpreted.
2) What else could also be interpreted, is Sarah's friends. Ethan and Benny are the good types of friends, who help her when she's down and help her up when she needs it. But Erica, she represents peer pressure (Just like Jesse Did in the beginning - the movie. And on the season finale) They are tempting Sarah to officially become one of them by threatening them Her to kill Benny or Ethan. But of course, here she needs to save her friends (hero theme also) But it represents how people deal with gangs and peer pressure from what could be the cheerleaders, or popular girls.
3) And lastly, ever since vampire movies came out, i think that none of them are realistic. But i'm kind of enjoying the 'home-y-ness' of this one. Why? Because they're weapons aren't large and expensive, they are small, homemade, and stereotyped to make it look pretty great. And yes, it's actually fun to watch, unlike those insanely fake movies nominated for the worst.
*Also, wouldn't you women rather have your children watch this instead of those really scary movies? Oh, and those actually 'scary movies' that are just completely pathetic and nasty.*
Thanks for listening Disney.
Julian, Harold, Celina, Dena, Isabella and Jeremy thanks you for this show.
We never miss it.
* we even record it! (we just love it THAT much)*
