Shady cancellation policy language - Hotel room reservation

Made a reservation on March 7th for a So Cal hotel with a great rate. Upon receiving confirmation email, I noticed that the cancellation policy said the room was fully refundable provided I cancelled on or before February 15 (not a typo). Essentially, I have to begin to cancel reservations a full three weeks before I make said reservation. Just my luck, the weekend of my stay is going to be a wet one and would rather not be stuck in a hotel room. Called RoomStays.com to address the nonsensical cancellation policy and unfortunately ran into a giant pile of cow dung. Staff was unprofessional in addressing discrepancy and provided conflicting answers as well as refusal to provide employee ID or name. When asked if they could at least reinstate the reservation since I could not get my money back, A MANAGER told me I was out of luck and would have to pay the room again. I immediately called the hotel and they assured me reservation could be reactivated. I have learned my lesson, never again will I consider using RoomStays.com
