This is a every-other-year timeshare interest in Florida that billed me$364.93 maintenance fees. They said they were due in December.
I mailed a check for $364.93 on Feb. 20. They did not deposit the check.
Instead, on March 1, they "assigned" the account to a collection agency and said I now owed $576.64. That's "late fees" of $211.71 on a charge of $364.93 that they claimed was 90 days late.
They would not discuss this with me and said it was out of their hands. They told me to call the collection agency, Concord Servicing Corporation, based in Arizona.
The woman at the Arizona collection agency told me I was required by law to pay the $576.64 and that she was a former employee of Oak Plantation and the company would not have intentionally failed to cash my check.
She said if I did not pay the $211.71 "late charges/collection fee" my credit would be adversely affected.
