We planned a weekend getaway to Washington DC arriving 11pm on Friday and leaving 5pm on Sunday, staying 2 nights at Club Quarters 839 17th St. Our United Airlines flight was completely canceled due to thunderstorms. United was not able to offer us another flight option as all following flights were completely booked until the following Monday. We decided to cancel the weekend trip.
United refunded our money for the flight reservation.
Upon returning home from the airport (it was 1am Saturday by this time), I called Club Quarters in Washington and spoke with their concierge to inform them of the cancellation. I was told to call back on Monday to speak with a manager who had the authority to refund our payment.
After waiting through (a few) lunch breaks and system crashes, I was finally able to speak to the manager at the hotel who told me to call the Reservations Supervisor in New York. Her name is Roseanne and she can be reached at 212-515-3064.
She informed me that she is unable to refund the cancellation penalty which amounted to our entire two nights stay, $260.10, because the hotel would lose revenue.
It seems absurd to me that we were charged the full amount of our entire stay, regardless of the hotel's uncompromising policies. For all I know, they rented the room to someone else.
