My fiance and I chose the Ramada vacation package for our honeymoon getaway. The price was right and we knew the timeshare tour was part of the setup.
We got the package for $798 total, plus $200 in port fees for our cruise. We read the package details completely, thanks to other reports I had found on this site, I was fully aware of the schemes.
Our trip was great, good food and better customer service. All in all, no complaints. My real issue was with the pressure tactics of the RCI timeshare company in Palm Beach Shores, FL. We did the tour and politely declined the purchase of the timeshare.
After the realtor and her supervisor assured us we would be able to get the interest rate of 17.9% lowered by our bank, we reluctantly agreed to purchase a condo there for the up front price of $587, which was immediately charged to my now husband's credit card.
When we got home, I read that we had 10 days to cancel. We rushed to the bank and were told the "deed and title" had to merit with them and the only way we would be able to refinance at a lower rate would be to put our hosue and cars up as collateral. We promptly declined and resolved to cancel.
When my husband called the representative from Palm Beach Development Group, he was given the run around. He left several messages for our contact person. When she finally returned his call, she told him it was not her problem and hung up on him!
We faxed letters of cancellation to all parties we could find numbers and addresses for. We were well within our rights to cancel and feel like we were treated like scum. Please contact me if you have a similar story.
