We were given a newly renovated room. The bed looked fine. Two of the chairs had holes through the fabric. The other badly worn furniture, INCLUDING THE DESK, was covered either by pieces of fabric or blankets. The carpet was also in poor condition. I will admit - the room was freshly painted. So fresh in fact, that the fumes were overwhelming! Apparently they did not air out the room after a very recent paint job.
The door at the rear of the hotel that we were instructed to use was locked, seemingly for some time, judging by the condition of the sign on it. Once we got into the hotel through a nearby door we discovered that THE DOOR WAS LOCKED FROM THE INSIDE ALSO AND THEREFORE NOT USEABLE AS A FIRE EXIT. Several of the exit signs were not lit, and in two hallways there were no lights on (although the vending machine area was lit). I did not feel the accommodations would have provided my family with safety.
When we requested a refund (we booked through Expedia in January) the owner told us he had authorized the refund and TOLD US TO LEAVE HIS HOTEL! In fact, after speaking to Expedia, he had not authorized the credit. When we called police to the hotel, the owner, Charles Jia, told the officer he had authorized the refund but "it may take a few days." When confirming this with Expedia the Charles had told Expedia he refused to authorize a refund for the room.
This was to be a great end to celebrating our daughter's graduation. Unfortunately we ended up being charged over $200 for a room we didn't stay in and arrived home at 3:30 A.M. After driving home. If anyone knows how we can get a refund from this hotel please let me know.
