What happened? I would have expected a stay in Las Vegas would have been fun. The staff acted like we were from the hood

My first vacation stay from Alaska to Las Vegas was a big disappointment at the MGM Grand, February 5-8. I had booked a package deal with Orbitz with an upgraded room. This room did not seem to have any renovations, and it seemed you were walking from one area of the hotel to another and carpet even changed. The room had no tub and the mattress must have been from the sixties, and nothing like the picture on the internet. The front desk gave me a deluxe suite but the shower head did not work as you could hardly get any water to rinse soap off, and the drain did not work properly giving you about two feet of water. However after unpacking, I did not feel like complaining again after about a 13 hour flight for another room.

All the staff in the casino were not engaging and/or friendly. Tourism maybe down but you would think they would be nice. We were also not told that drinks would be free if you are gambling as we bought them at the bar.

Alaska has a no smoking law in public areas and the heavy smoking at GMG Grand made it difficult to breathe and my eyes are still red from smoke.

I had met a friend from Florida who also had never been to Las Vegas. He had a knee replacement, and several back surgeries. The soft bad mattress in the new room made his back hurt a great deal, and he also complained about the shower. We had no idea the walking that is required in Las Vegas and people could see he was in pain but no one tried to show us any handicap exits or if there is any. I also have a knee problem, and found the walking was too much.

In Florida, they do not allow X-rated movies and he wanted to watch one. Well, little did he know it would be XXX, and it made us both sick.

My birthday was that week and I had just turned 54, and did not need a nosey staff and/or their condemning looks. Were they afriad of giving someone a free drink? I really hate being called Miss in a negative way. Did someone in Alaska/Florida call and ruin the trip? What happened? I tried to be positive. Did getting an upgraded room make the staff mad?
