Unfriendly Skies - airline travel

I had made a reservation for my son, Zachary, to fly from Chicago to Hartford, CT, to attend a soccer camp on July 6, '08. I did this through a live ticket agent, and used my husband, Keith's, frequent flyer miles to do so. The reservation was made approximately 6 weeks in advance. I received e-mail confirmation, and noticed the day before the flight that the reservation was in my husband's name. I called to speak to an agent, and told her that a mistake had been made by the booking agent in that he entered the wrong name on the ticket. I was told that she could not change the name without returning the miles to the account, and starting all over. Then she said there were no more seats on this flight. My husband came to the phone, and told her that if she refused to give my son a seat, he would get on the plane himself. At this, she agreed to issue a ticket to my son on the same flight, and a different return flight with a stop-over in Washington D.C. All this for just $200 additional! What a deal! By the way, the agent's supervisor was on the line listening to the conversation. We had no choice but to pay the additional money, as we had paid for the soccer camp, and Zack was looking forward to seeing several college coaches there.

My husband had made reservations for a different trip this past May for the two of us to fly to New York for his college reunion in New Haven, CT. He gave me the reservations, and I noticed that they had been moved back one day... Leaving one day earlier and returning one day earlier. We would have miss the last dinner of the reunion. Keith said the agent made a mistake as he had the dates written down in front of him. I called to correct the error, and was told that any changes would cost more money. I explained that the mistake was made by the agent. No good. However, we got lucky as the cost of the tickets had gone down, so we only had to pay an additional $69 for this one. What a bargain!
