I bought an expensive gift certificate in December for an employee that included a night's lodging and a dinner at this hotel. I recently found out they had gone out of business so I called the old number and e-mailed the owner to see how they were going to handle the unredeemed certificate. No answer & no response.
I don't want to kick someone when they are down and I know how hard it is to keep a business afloat, but I'm out the money, my employee has no gift and I have no way of being compensated. As a business owner, the bigger issue is the lack of integrity on their part. Some effort should have been made to reimburse me or at least contact me to discuss it.
