I booked two nights at Homestead Suites through Priceline. I arrived and was given a room that seemed fine at first. Then the air control was inconsistent and I was getting hot and cold and hot and cold. I didn't sleep. At 3 am I decided to get the security guard to change my room. When I calmly told him about my situation he treated me like I was attacking him. I wasn't. He eventually realized that I wasn't attacking him at all and he calmly gave me a new room which worked fine on the temperature control, but the dead lock on the door didn't push in, no matter what position I put the door in. I got about 1 hour of sleep and it was an important weekend at a professional convention. I was extremely tired for the entire convention.
When I tried to reach the manager at Homestead Suites on Monday, to ask her how she would take responsibility for this, I could never reach her. I left two nice messages on her answering service and did not receive any call back. I called about 5 times throughout the day and even once, I got someone to pick up the phone at that extension but she could not speak english very well. I asked if I was transferred to the right extension and the front desk receptionist said yes, so, I guess they've got cleaning ladies that answer the phone in the manager's office - very odd.
I plan to return the area for conventions in the future, but I will NOT use priceline to book a hotel because I may get Homestead again (with priceline you do not get the choice of the hotel when you book). I will instead go out of my way to avoid any Homestead's in the future. I initially got a "Deal" with the price of the hotel stay, but like they say, "You get what you pay for". Well, this time, I got less than what I paid for.in the end it was a "criminal exchange" of money for services.
Please avoid Homestead Suites at all costs and specially the one on Commerical Road in Ft Lauderdale Florida.
