Responded to a postal mailing for free US Airways tickets anywhere in the US for attending a seminar where there would be no solicitation of attendees. During a telephone call to the marketing company, I repeated asked about the need to make a purchase. I was repeatedly told that the only criterion for tickets was to attend the program and that the objective of the program was to present various types of vacations the company offered and that there was no obligation to purchase nor would anyone try to make a sale.
During the program, the VIP presenter attempted to sell a lifetime membership in VIP starting at $6,000 or for $2,000 less for signing up at the conclusion of the presentation. Membership entitled a member and spouse to 4 weeks per year of condo time just about anywhere in the world plus a special deal on extra trips.
After the presentation, representatives of the company went one and one with participants and pressured the to purchase a plan. Questions related to references were disregarded. As the seller proceeded to make his point he kept lowering the price of membership. We declined the offer and requested our certificate for the two US Airways tickets.
We received instead a form to submit by mail for specified vacation deals for which we would be responsible for specific costs such as taxes, etc. When queried about the program, the presenter responded." You had to know that someone was going to sell you something? When asked about the USD Airways certificate, I was told to read the paper.
