I booked a room in Las Vegas through HOTELS.com. As is the normal custom I had to give a copy of my credit card when checking in. I checked out of the hotel, using their in-room checkout. I had no additional charges. After I got home I found that the hotel had charged me, in addition to HOTELS.com. E-mails to HOTELS.com did no good. They refused to help me or refund the overcharge.
I filed a dispute with my credit card company but both HOTELS.com and the hotel insisted that they had a valid claim. My only option was to file a lawsuit to recover the overcharge. It's obviously not worth my time to file a lawsuit over $250. Don't make the same mistake I did. Do not use HOTELS.com to book a hotel room.
