Hard sell but value can be found with patience

I also received a similar phone call after entering a car drawing a month ago. It was a 3 night / day vacation to Orlando or Vegas and based on good experiences with similar time share hooks in the past I decided to take a chance. I never bought the packages but had good experiences with the travel gift.

TAN presented the 30 vacations for $12K and ultimately offered 8 weeks for $2500. When I continued to balk, we parted ways and I went to collect my gift thinking the concept was interesting but not meant to be. While collecting my gift, the gift agent (for lack of a better word) asked why I had bailed and I explained the upfront cost was too much and I was not about to pay $329/yr for an annual fee. Ultimately, I was offered a package for $1000 where I could buy up to 14 weeks at $200/wk without the $329 yearly fee (much more reasonable and less risky than those presented during their presentation).

In doing some research after the fact, I looked in to some of the resorts offered and they are typically going for about $150/night and have good reviews based on some of the travel sites available on the web. This falls in line with the positive comments on this site.

I believe that the concept does have some value (we'll see once I actually make a trip) but not at $12K. If you can hold to your guns and emphasize that you like the concept but the price and risk is too great to invest that much up front, than the the $1K offer seems like a reasonable price.
