Mayan Resorts timeshare fraudulent sales practices - a scam that is destroying the lives of good people ripoff, And Dallas, Texas

We are in a current dispute with Mayan Resorts/Grupo Mayan/Desarrollo Marina Vallarta to have our timeshare purchase contract cancelled and our downpayment of $18,888 refunded. (Total price is $62k). Tricked and deceived, manipulated and lied to - we bought this timeshare under pressure and duress during a very cleverly orchestrated sales presentation.

We asked several times about cancellation policy and were told each time that if we cancelled we would lose our downpayment and this price with all its incentives was only good "today" - everything was presented as a fantastic investment and income opportunity - we attended the so-called "no obligation 90 minute presentation" and were there 7 HOURS with our children. Each time we came up with an objection or showed hesitation, the Mayan rep had another great answer or brought in "Dave" the "Manager" to convince us further with more lies.

In spite of asking for 24 hours to see and read the paperwork and think it over (AND BEING REFUSED ON THE BASIS THE DEAL IS ONLY GOOD FOR "TODAY") we were whizzed through a contract-signing at the very end of the seven hours and that was the first time we had access to any of the paperwork - at the culmination of an exhausting day, we were just desperate to leave.

There is too much to say here - but WE HAVE COPIES OF MAYAN TRAINING MANUALS WHICH SUPPORT OUR ACCOUNT AND WE KNOW THAT PURSUANT TO MEXICAN CONSUMER LAW, ARTICLE 56, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN THE COMPANY WAIVE OUR RIGHT TO CANCEL.indeed there are portions of these training manuals which clearly say to the reps in training, to make sure they tell the customer that they will lose their money if they cancel and also that the most important thing is "to get them past the five days".

There is apparently an attorney going around on behalf of Mayan who is questioning the authenticity of these training manual excerpts - they are the real thing - anyone who has been to one of these presentations could tell you that. They include a sample sales narrative which is pretty eerily close to a word for word of what the rep and manager "sold" us with, save a few number changes here and there. Moreover, their claims during presentation turned out to be exaggerated and oftentimes false.

The re-sale value of the timeshare is 40% - 60% LESS than they assured us it would be, and the units/weeks we purchased rent for much less than we were told they would also. We have proof of this too. We wish to warn anyone visiting Mexico about this dreadful scam. We are doing everything we can to cancel our contract and have our money refunded - we have filed a complaint with PROFECO and have initiated a dispute with our credit card company against Mayan Resorts.

We need as much help as we can get and are willing to go all the way to have this resolved, for ourselves and for the protection of others. One website I was working with has been closed down, suddenly.in its place is a Mayan Palace page with positive testimonials from guests staying there. I have also gone to other links and discovered that other complaint sites against this company have been shut down - presumably they have settled and have been gagged. We must stop this dreadful business practice before more people get ruined.
