Grand Mayan - Mayan Palace - Desarrollo Marina Vallarta S.A.De C.V. - Grupo Mayan, timeshare fraud, we were lied to about deposit and time frame to rescind ripoff Puerto Vallarta Mexico

OK, say it. How could you fall for their trap? We vacationed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in July. Our family of five was approached by a hostess at a restaurant for discounted tickets for a canopy tour. She said she'd take us to breakfast the next morning and get us the tickets. Did not say we'd be sitting through a timeshare presentation.

Needless to say, 5 hours later, we signed on for the Grand Mayan resort timeshare. We had been through at least 6 timeshare presentations in the last 10 years, so were experienced in saying no.

Our problem now with this timeshare is: At no time during the presentation were we told by the salesman that there was a 5 day period where we could rescind our downpayment of over $10,000.in fact, he made a point of saying "You do know that you can't get the downpayment back, right?" Where in reality, while still in Mexico and according to Mexican law, we would have had and taken the opportunity to make further inquiries into the "great deal" that we got and changed our minds. FRAUD.

In our opinion, we were blatantly lied to, the timeframe passed for us to get our deposit back, and we are now in the process of stopping our credit card deposit, writing to the Grand Mayan, Wyndham Hotels, RCI, SFX, and other websites to inform consumers not to do business with the Grand Mayan, Grupo Mayan businesses.

In addition to not being informed of the 5 day period to change our minds, they grossly overestimated what we could get in renting out the units if we didn't use them-$3500/week, where in reality a unit may go for $1400. They also grossly overestimated the worth of a Kauai timeshare we currently own. Their plan was to buy our Kauai timeshare, then sell it back to us for $1, so we could then resell it ourselves to help in paying for the Grand Mayan timeshare. A sales manager offered that morsel to get us to buy the package.By this time, we felt that if we didn't use all the weeks presented to us, at least we could rent them out and make back more than the maintenance fee.

I want people to know that the Grand Mayan/Grupo Mayan businesses are not truthful and exhibit fraudulent business practices.

I recommend not submitting yourself to the Grand Mayan timeshare presentation. Pay the extra for a canopy tour, unless you enjoy mental and financial torture.
