Refusal to assist with emergency travel changes

I had a change in itinerary caused by Amtrak re-routing their tracks, which caused me to have to re-book my entire flight. Amtrak has since guaranteed me they would make sure I was not stranded. When I called Expedia, I was told that their fine print indicated I could not change my airfare. However, that is not what the website states. When we called Expedia, the clerk read an entirely different set of rules, which stated something different from what their website states.

I just had an urgent need to change my air fare schedule, which I booked through your website and was told by your customer disservice agent that it was too bad, but that you did not offer any assistance in this matter because your website indicated under terms and conditions that tickets were nonrefundable, yet your website sent me an e-mail that indicated changes in flights were available and could be done on line.

Not only did they refuse to follow the instructions stated on their service agreement, they refused to even assist me in even re-booking the new flight. United wasn't much better. They charged me an entirely new ticket fee at full fare.

Here is what I have sent to Expedia in response to the rip off they did to me in response to my emergency.

We are on the phone with them even as we speak trying to get to speak with a manager and the clerk is arguing with us and refusing to do the transfer rather than admit that they may have made a mistake. I am sure your readers will appreciate the notice that they should not do business with this company. They do not give the service they advertise. I would not be the least surprised to learn that they went back into the account while we were on the phone and changed their contract information. We have printed out their published terms and conditions and their conditions re change of flights. Five minutes later, the entire rules page changed on their website. I guess they thought we were too stupid to notice.

These guys are a rip-off

To Expedia.com
I signed up with your service due to the advertising of your traveling gnome which indicated that Expedia helped in times of trouble. Obviously, the helpful gnome was not around when my issue, which was not caused by my doing, occurred.

When I booked my airline ticket through you my train schedule indicated I had over three hours from train time to air departure to get to the airport, which, given it is only 11 miles from the train depot, should have been ample time to make my flight.

When I called your office this morning and tried to explain that the Train only called me a few minutes before and told me that the entire train route had been re-routed, I was told it was too bad because your website clearly indicated the issue of nonrefundable tickets, which I find to be unconscionable since it is buried in the small print of your service agreement and not posted openly on your ticketing site.

I booked through your agency on the strength of your advertising that you take care of your customers. Obviously, your ad does not match your service agreement because in this emergency, which I did not cause, you did absolutely nothing to assist me and pretty much told me I could take a flying leap.

Had I not followed the assurances of your ad and booked through Auto Club, which I could easily have done and for not much difference in the price, Auto Club would have stood behind its bookings and would have tried to work with me. Your office did not even assist me in booking the second flight ticket. I had to call United and do it myself. I could have done that in the first place and not bothered to give you your agency fees and gotten the same rotten service.

Needless to say, this is not only the first time I have used your services, it will probably be the last time I use your services. And as no bad turn goes rewarded, I intend to tell a friend, in fact, intend to go directly to my personal website and let all of my readers know that your service is not worth the powder it would take to blow you up.

Thanks for nothing. United Airlines will receive a similar message.

Amtrak, unlike you, is standing behind its service and not only is taking care of the problem you refused to even discuss, but is guaranteeing they will make sure I and my grandchild get home safely.
