I purchased tickets for a flight home on leave following my yearlong deployment to Afghanistan through Orbitz.com. I was given block leave dates that I may take leave between; knowing that in the Army leave often changes abruptly, I purchased the additional insurance for 33 dollars, that would cover Trip Cancellation up to $617.82 (nearly the amount of my flight tickets).
In accordance with Murphy's Law, my leave dates changed and I was forced to cancel and buy new tickets. I did so and filed a claim through Access America (the insurance company that Orbitz.com uses and the one I purchased it through). The website claims that a response will be given 1-2 days after the claim is filed. I waited 3 days and filed again. I waited 3 more days then wrote the company directly.
I have since been waiting for a reply (4 days passed). This issue has caused hardship with my checking account which went into negatives; my bank however understood the circumstances and removed all surcharges for overdraft, however I still have not received my refund and as per the policy I am entitled to one.
It is completely irresponsible and neglectful to its customers to not even write them back or reply to a claim. I am taking this matters very seriously and will take any and all appropriate steps to conclude this matter, including legal action if necessary.
