On American Airlines web page I cashed in 60,000 miles for a round trip ticket to Paris from Seattle. My flight to Paris was fine with a 2 hour lay-over at JFK. My return flight however has me flying from Paris to JFK on Friday night then leaving the following morning from Newark, NJ.
I was not given any choice of flights, This is the flight they assigned to me. When I called to question why I am forced to find my own way to another State in order to make a connection, The representative supervisor stated that Newark and JFK are considered CO-TERMINALS. She told me she could change my flight to a flight 20 hours later leaving from JFK but I would need to pay $100 dollars as a fee for changing airports.
American Air already charged me $195.00 just to use the frequent flyer miles I EARNED. Now they want me to pay another $100 to change airports. I stated that leaving from JFK was not changing airports since I landed there. Besides, if American considers JFK and Newark Co-airports i would still not be changing airports. This is not what the agent wanted to hear so she immediately launched into how I made this reservation on-line so I acted as my own Travel Agent so any routing issues were my fault. At the time I made this reservation this was the only routing I was offered. I simply assumed that they would provide some assistance getting from one airport to the other.
The representative stated that I was responsible for transferring my luggage and finding my own transportation to Newark. Despite the fact that my flight from Paris arrives after the bus to Newark stops running so I will need to pay nearly $100 for a taxi and find a place to stay since American Air will not let me check in for my flight out of Newark until the following morning.
I feel it is ridiculous having to change planes in another state, then it turns to extortion asking for $100 to change airports when I land am already landing there. Why did they not offer me the flight from JFK to Seattle in the first place!
