Ramada Plaza Resorts
Cancellation of a deceiving vacation, ripoff

Should have gone with my instincts and thrown out RPR voucher along with all the other junk mail I receive daily. I was unusually impulsive and registered for the Ft. Lauderdale / Orlando / Bahamas "deal" before performing my usual intensive research.

I made "the call" and ended up speaking to 3 very nice Rep.'s each stating something a little different than the other.By the end of the 1 hour phone call, I was being told that the cost to me would be $698 and had to give my credit card number right then since it is a one-time "deal".

I was told that when I book the vacation dates, I would have to pay another $698 for my wife and $99 per child. (the reason why I stated these costs is so that others reading this can compare to what was told to them).

They said, because I live in Florida, I will receive an upgrade on the meals meaning all meals eaten by my wife and I at the resorts and on the cruise would be included in the "deal", but we would have to pay separately for our kids meals except while on the 2 night Regal Empress cruise.

I told them I would drive our minivan from Tampa instead of renting a car. They said I would be reimbursed for gas up to $100 as long as I sent them the receipts. They also gave me 18 months to book the vacation.

Once off the phone, I jumped onto the internet and was WOWed by the negative reports RPR and the cruiseship has received. My jaw dropped and my heart skipped a few beats. We are financially straped, so to blow $698 right now on a "scam" or at least a hyped-up vacation "deal" is unnerving.

On the back of the voucher it states "refunds subject to law of state in which consumer resides". I found (link deleted - see below) which lists Florida statutes. Under title 33, chapter 559 "sellers of travel" must cancel at the buyers request within 30 days of purchase or receipt of a vacation certificate.

I called the day after registering and canceled with ease. I was all prepared to do battle, but fortunately did not have to. I informed my credit institution about RPR, just in case they try to charge me in the future.

We could have gone on this vacation and possibly enjoyed it for a relatively low amount, but after reading all the bad press, we felt it was too risky. When seeking a vacation in the future, I will do my homework first and NOT fall into the unsolicited junk mail trap again. Hope this helps you! If you are seeking a refund, there are many paths to take to get it. The internet is a wonderful thing!
