In mid September we went in to fill out the necessary paperwork to cancel our daughter's gym membership (It was paid for by my bank account) papers were filled out and we were told because of the close proximity to where our automatic withdrawal is normally pulled, we "might" incur one more monthly fee. Sure enough the end of September $19.99 was deducted from my account. Yesterday 10-19-10 I looked at my bank account online and found a $25 charge from them deducted from my bank account. A phone call to them told me they charged me their yearly "rate lock in fee" despite the fact that I cancelled my membership! Their reasoning was they tell me, in my original agreement it said I would be charged a monthly rate lock in fee and since they did it a few days before my membership was officially canceled (now they tell me it takes 30 days after I fill out the form for it to be canceled) they say they are entitled to this fee. Why would I need a rate lock in when they arent supposed to take another dime out of my bank account? I DONT, I tried reasoning with them and their "corporate office" and asking for my money back, The manager at the gym told me they dont do refunds and the corporate people told me it's up to the manager to do what he wants.
