My friend is a member of Gold's Gym and talked me into going as a guest. I printed off the free day pass and went with her. While there I was introduced to Eric, he spoke to me and told me he hoped that I would be back.
I recieved several phone calls from this rep over two days trying to reach me about joining... Which I originally had no inentions of doing. It was the last day of May and I said I didn't have the money for the enormous Joining fee they charge plus the monthly payment. He told me that he really wanted to get me singed up and that I didn't have to join right away that he would let me do it on a month to month until I decided if I wanted to join and that way he could give me the whole next month free and I didn't have to pay until July. So I told him alright I would do that and he stated "you can cancel at any time"
I went in to pick up a membership card and they didn't have one so I worked out without one then on my next trip picked one up... I NEVER SIGNED A CONTRACT!!! I also recieved in the mail a letter from "conexion" their billing company that said I would be billed for a full year...
I decided I didn't go enough to be paying 45.99 a month so I called and told Eric that I needed to Cancel and to charge me for the month of July because I used the free month but that I couldn't afford to keep it up. He said it would be taken care of, I also addressed the letter recieved and was told not to worry about it because they always send those letters to new members he would take care of it all for me. So off I go and think nothing of it.
At McDonald's one morning I couldn't pay for my breakfast... I sat down at work and made sure I had balanced my check book and showed I should have $49 and upon checking my online statement found a deduction from Gold's Gym! I was outraged! I called Eric and left him two messages. I finally caught him at work where he told me that I never left him my home number... BUNK! I left him home and work numbers AND the times I would be at each!!! He said that he would have to look up my account and call me back... I waited all day Saturday and all day sunday and still no word from him (A coworker said he would be in all weekend). Monday I called him again and said that I really need that money back and he said he was working on it and it would be a week before he could get back with me... I have not heard from him since.
After speaking with Eric I drove to my bank and asked them how I could contest a charge... I had given them my debit card number so It was cancelled and I was given a new one and a charge was funded to my account... I was told the money would be in my account until such time as the investigation was over and if Gold's Gym contested I would be sent paper work. I have one week left in the investigation and have not recieved anything stating that they will contest the accusation I made.
However I did recieve another letter from Conexion stating that my account is seriously delenquent that I owe them some $400 and that they will report this on my credit if I do not take care of it. I emailed them stating I would like to see a copy of the contract I signed so that my attourney and I could review it and was told that they don't have any such documentation I have to ask Gold's Gym for it. I have called the building manager twice now leaving messages and recived no reply to date... I WILL BE REPORTING BOTH COMPANIES TO THE BBB AND THE FTC!!! As well as the new's Channel 5's FIVE on your Side ASAP.
