Forfeiture of contract signature. Ripoff

I enrolled my wife in their school so that she can get back into the shape she was before her pregnancy. I was approached by the owner, Doyle McMahon or McMahon Doyle, who offered me a two for one discount so that I would be able to exercise with my wife. He presented himself as a man that was formerly in the U.S. Army's Special Forces. I informed him that I wasn't too sure how long I would be around because I myself am in the Army and I do not want too long of a committment. The owner informed one of his employees to sign me up for a 6 month contract. I signed the "6" month contract and then I was told to go on ahead and start my first class and pick up my copy afterwards. After our class I picked up my contract but never bothered to look at it because I assumed it was exactly what I had signed for.

Next, thing I know I am receiving a confirmation of the contract from their bill payment agency that I had signed up for a "1 year" contract. The agency's name is ASF and they informed me that they have never had a 1 year contract.

I immediately recovered my copy of the contract and I was shocked. The number, "6" on the contract had an obvious number "1" drawn on top of it.

I immediately contacted the owner as well as the employees that did not bother to return my emails or my phone calls for some time. Finally, I received a reponse from the owner that told me that it wasn't his problem and to take it up with the class.

Turns out also that this guy was never in Special Forces as I myself was stationed in Fort Bragg, NC and no one had ever heard of him.

Turns out their were a few other students that went through the same and many had left and are in the same situation.

I now have a collection on my report from ASF because of a 1 year contract I never signed for; if nothing is done I will have to take him to small claims court to cover the fees.

In addition he verbally told me that if I was not satisfied with the services that I could cancel at any time.

This school is what I call your typical commerical martial arts school where they care more about making money than anything else.
