I recently had a very bad experience working for this company. I applied online for a PART TIME POSITION in Challis Id. I received a phone call asking me to go back online and change it to a temp position due to the fact that it was a brand new store they wanted to bring in 20 people to build the inside and stock it for grand opening out of those 20 people they would choose who they wanted to keep on as a regular employee. So I did just as they asked even though I am a mother of a 5 yr old. I worked my butt off for 10 days straight with only 1 day of in between and 8 to 11&1/2 hr days. Finally when opening day was here I was given a small piece of paper with the next 2 days and times for me to be there. So I showed up as scheduled just to be trained by a women from Twin Falls Id named Katie, She was the rudest most inconsiderate person I have ever meet in my life. She did nothing but yell and scream at me in front of customers and degrade me, belittle me, and talk down to me. I got 10 min of training on the registers which I had never had any experience on this kind at all. And she had me on a computer across the store taking tests required by the company explaining company policies and rules. So it was constant screaming for me to come back to the register to ring someone up while I was in the middle of taking a test. Then all I could think about was the test and try to remember what to do on the register. It sucked she treated me like I was stupid. I was constantly apologizing to my customers or they were apologizing to me because they thought they did something to get me in trouble. At one point I had just rang a gentlemen up and he payed with his debit card, during the transaction the registers crashed. He had to wait 15 to 20 minutes for them to come back up. When they finally did she yelled across to me "LOG ON NOW" So I did while doing so the man asked me if his debit went through so I turned and asked this manager and she yelled back at " I SAID LOG ON!" He then apologized to me again. REALLY people is this O. K? I didn't know if I was coming or going between testing on the policies and ringing people up on a register I had never used before and really had about 10 minutes of training on! And if I got confused or didn't know how to void something she treated me like I was retarded. And let me remind you this was the first day of opening! Yes busy!!! Yes this same night I was fired, (I think of it as a blessing). Because I was about to lose it on her. I excepted a check from a little old lady who forgot her licence. But she knew her number and I put it into the register and it excepted it. Well unknown to me it was against company policies! Had i trained and taken the test on the computer i might have know this!!! And if it's against company policies why did she watch and let me do it!!! Hmmmmm. I have never been so degraded in my life, I have a few choice words for her and the company but I will be nice. I totally do NOT recommend working for this company at all. I have written them a letter E-mail and GUESS WHAT? No return letter or phone call! Surprise!!! And don't bother calling the complaint hot line, All you get is a machine telling you to press this # and that # and then it will ring and ring, Then take you right back to the beginning again. They don't care about the employees or the the customers! Your just dog doo under their shoes! All they want is your money and if you work for them your their slave. No vacation, benefits, you buy all your own uniforms. And all at the same time you get treated like shit!!! IWelcome to Family Dollar!!
