I too will add my sad little story to this long list. I have never ordered from Etsy, always leery about the process of vendors—anyone, really—slapping up a "store." But friends encouraged me that Etsy was the greatest thing since sliced bread, so I ordered a vintage library drawer from CakePaperDesigns. Paypal took my money instantly, but CakePaperDesigns took her time getting back to me.in fact I had to ask her if and when my order would be shipped. She said she'd been on vacation a few days. More than a week later, she notified me my item had shipped, with a tracking number that indicated it had been electronically entered and was "in transit." Days went by, no package. I wrote to CakePaper. She didn't answer. After another week, I wrote again, saying the tracking number didn't work and could she find out on her end. I wrote AGAIN saying I would open a case on Etsy if I didn't hear from her. She wrote and said she'd "look into it." A few more days passed, no package, so I opened the case on Etsy. And lo, it seems as if her shop has gone. Along with my money.
I opened the case on Etsy but know I will play hell to get my money back. Here's the thing about Etsy: it's run by amateurs (Etsy) and the vendors are amateurs and the customers will always be the losers. I can kiss my money goodbye. A hard lesson to learn, but I will never, ever buy from Etsy again. And because I'm a blogger, lecturer, and writer, I'll be speaking out on this for a long time.
