After using a calling card for year to call Eastern Europe, I shopped SBC International Rates, they were $0.19/min, this seems ok but not great for many calling card offer plans at $0.06/min. I went online to subscribe and started using their service to call International.
After a month I tried to call to Europe and it says my phone is cut off, I called their customer service department, he said for some reason the plan did not take affect or confirm on-line, he said the charges where $2300.00 or $5.25 min to call Europe because the plan did not take effect, as we know this amount is crazy, you can call almost anywhere in the world for under $0.30/min so why so high? He was helpful and said he was going to transfer me to another department so they can re-rate my called at $0.19/min rather than the crazy amount of $5.25/min.
This will change the charges from $2300 to a reasonable $80.00. I called and they said, sorry your plan did no take affect it is SBC policy to not make adjustments, you have to make a payment plan to pay off these thousand of dollars. I tried to explain that I signed up on line, potentially there was a web site error or something obviously went wrong, why would I call International phones every single day without a plan, and who in their right mind would agree to $5.25 min. She said nothing we can do sorry, I talked to the manager and she told me the same, they will not make any adjustments, so if SBC for some reason does not get your request for a plan, I would double and triple check who set up your calling plan, get names and times you called, because if they fail to add it to your account, you are responsible for their mistakes, if you access it on line, don't hope they send you c confirmation to your email, print out each page so when you go to Court you have proof that you made any changes, if their server fails and you didnt get the modification you want, they will make you pay!
They will charge you this crazy totally erroneous fees and you will be responsible to pay, how many people do they do this to every day. I know for some people $2000 could bankrupt them, I am totally disgusted by their callousness toward their customers and not willing to back up their service, They can't even accept to make a reasonable $0.19 min much higher than calling card plans, they want to totally rip me off thousands of dollars, I am going to file suit or arbitration, if SBC has done this to you, call the FTC and file a complaint, call your State Attorney General don't let them rip us off!
